3.5: Action Plan
Section aim

The objective of this section is for you to develop your own manifesto for the programming and inclusion of disabled dance within your organisation and of disabled dance artists in your premises.

You will be encouraged to think beyond the written word to consider different media in which a manifesto might be expressed.

You will be asked to put your manifesto into practice, and reflect on how it shapes and impacts upon behaviours in your organisation over the coming year culminating in your reflections on the question: what difference have you made to equality and diversity in your organisation?

Comparisons

Many manifestos tend to be documents comprising mostly of written statements – but they need not be. There are some excellent examples of the use of different artistic forms and multimedia in drawing up manifestos.

Red Alan’s Manifesto by Grayson Perry RA, is an example. The following link is a review of this work:

There are, of course, other examples too.

Further advice

Once you have drawn up your manifesto, how are you going to make it public and put it in to practice?  Making it available on your website does of course ‘publish’ it – but that is unlikely to be enough to make a difference.

Should you hold public meetings to discuss implementation? Lobby trustees? Have an accessibility audit done? Consider the language used in your organisation around disability?

Review the ways in which your organisations decides on what it should programme and in so doing how it deals with the equality and diversity agenda. What are the steps that need to be taken to push for more diversity in your venue?

Make an action plan outlining the ways in which you can implement your manifesto in your institution.

Please get in touch to share your manifesto and let us know how you implemented it. You can write to us and/or send us a blog post for our website at invisiblediff@gmail.com or you can share your experiences via social media using the course hashtag #resinctoolkit
